Unfortunately, I don’t have any online Iowa traffic school reviews because as of right now, the state of Iowa only allows traffic school to be taken in a classroom at your local community college. It seems a bit silly the Iowa driver improvement course is only available in a classroom, but that’s how it is. Now, in some cases, you can get special permission to take your traffic school online. If you actually have a legitimate reason, gaining special permission might not be as hard as you think. Even if you don’t have a legitimate reason, it doesn’t hurt to ask! With an online version of the Iowa driver improvement course, you can go at your own pace, on your own time, and you never have to leave the house.
The Best Iowa Traffic School Online
If you do receive special permission from the court to take your Iowa driver improvement course online instead of at a community college, my top recommendation is iDriveSafely.
They have been around for nearly 20 years and have a great reputation. So if you’re lucky enough to be able to take your course online, that’s who you should go with.
To give you an idea, iDriveSafely offers a fast and easy Iowa defensive driving course that you can complete in the comfort of your home. Plus, you can complete this course at your own pace since it will be available for access at any time of the day.
Their course materials include videos, animations, 3D graphics, and even audio clips so you won’t get stuck reading through text alone.
They also have a progress tracker that auto-saves every time you log out, allowing you to come back and resume exactly where you left off conveniently.
In case you encounter any issues while completing the course, you can contact their customer support service which is available 7 days a week. This means that you’ll have frequent access to assistance when you need it.
Just make sure that you seek permission from your court handler first (or from the Iowa Motor Vehicle Division) before you sign up because iDriveSafely is not yet approved in the state of Iowa.
Meanwhile, if you’re tight on budget and you want to save up, GoToTrafficSchool offers the cheapest course in the state. What’s more, their course is an Iowa state-approved defensive driving course (although you’ll still need to seek approval from your court handler before signing up).
You can also try out their free course trial before you sign up to get a feel on their material. This can help you decide if their course is the right fit for you or not (even before making a commitment).
Just like iDriveSafely, they offer a mobile-friendly interface, which they have recently updated. You can access your lessons from any mobile device. They also offer 24/7 customer support so you won’t have any trouble seeking assistance if you need help in completing your lessons.
How Does The Iowa Driver Improvement School Program Work?
The following information was taken directly from the Iowa DOT website:
When your record shows convictions of three countable moving violations that were committed within a 12-month period, or you have been convicted of a speeding violation of 25 mph to 29 mph over the limit, you may be required to complete a driver improvement school at your local community college.
After you have successfully completed the program, you will be on probation for one year. If you are convicted of a moving violation while on probation, the Iowa DOT’s Office of Driver Services will start action to suspend your license. Also, a suspension notice will be mailed to you if you fail to complete the driver improvement program.
