How Do I Schedule for the Connecticut Permit Test?

You can schedule your permit test on the Connecticut DMV website

Simply choose which type of test you want to take, whether ‘Non-CDL Learner Permit Test’, CDL Knowledge Test, or Motorcycle Permit Knowledge Test. 

From there, you will be asked to enter your details and select the testing schedule you prefer. You may also choose the DMV office where it’s most convenient for you. 

You also pay for your permit test here. 

Through the website, you can also reschedule your appointment, cancel your appointment, check for appointment confirmation, or retrieve your pin. 

How Much Does the Permit Test Cost in Connecticut?

The permit test costs $40. This already includes the vision, knowledge, and road tests. 

Note: you are no longer allowed to pay via e-check. 

As for the actual learner’s permit, it costs an additional $19. 

What Do You Need for the Connecticut Permit Test?

The requirements needed to take the Connecticut permit test vary depending on your age. 

For 16-17 years old:

  1. Collect all acceptable forms of identification listed here. If you are a non-US citizen, please check the additional identification requirements listed here.
  2. Schedule an appointment to take the permit test online
  3. Fill out the Application for Non-Commercial Learner’s Permit and/or Driver’s License and submit it to the DMV office, along with your IDs, during test day. 
  4. If your parent or guardian won’t be able to accompany you during the testing date, submit a filled-out Certificate of Parental Consent.
  5. Pass the vision test

For 18 years old and above:

  1. If you have a Connecticut ID card, you have the option to bring it instead of the other identity documents to the DMV office.   2. Schedule an appointment for your permit test online
  3. On your testing day, bring the original documents and your appointment verification.
  4. You will be asked to take a vision test first. If you pass the vision test, you will proceed with the knowledge test. 

Once you submit all the documents, as well as pass the vision and permit test, you can get your learner’s permit. 

How Many Questions Are on the Connecticut Permit Test?

There are 25 questions on the knowledge test. In order to pass, you cannot get more than 5 questions wrong. 

What Happens if I Fail the Connecticut Permit Test?

If you fail the knowledge portion of the test, you need to reschedule online with the DMV office. You will also have to pay for the test again. 

You can apply for a retake right after you see the results of your exam, but you will only be allowed to take the test 7 days after your last testing date.
