Comedy Traffic School Review

Comedy Traffic School, located at ComedyTrafficSchool.com, is a course I only recently got around to reviewing. I’ve gotta say, I’m pretty darn impressed! I’m still a huge fan of my highest rated online traffic schools, Improv Traffic School and iDriveSafely, but this is definitely another great option to look into.

History & Ownership Of Comedy Traffic School

Comedy Traffic School has been around since 1999, but as of this review, their online traffic school is only approved for the state of California. While they do have a valid California DMV license for providing online traffic school (#E0119), the exact ownership of this traffic school remains a bit clouded. I was able to find out who created the program which is Sky Scraper Productions. However, I don’t know if they actually own the company or not. I also have not been able to confirm the exact physical location of this business, which appears to be separate from their main mailing address as posted on their website. The inability to track down the exact owner of this traffic school is slightly worrisome, but since this company has had a relatively good track record since 1999, it is not a major issue.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Comedy Traffic School is only approved in the state of California. If you are taking online traffic school in any state other than California, visit my online traffic school reviews by state page.

Overall Reputation Of Comedy Traffic School

Comedy Traffic School claims to be the worlds most popular online traffic school, but I am not sure how they came up with that statistic. It’s true they have had over 1 million students graduate from their traffic school courses, but there are other online traffic schools with 5 million grads or more, so I am not sure how they are able to claim to be the most popular. In any case, their online reputation is about average according to popular review websites like Yelp. You can see some user reviews on Yelp about this school here, here, and here.

A word of caution about trusting Yelp reviews – It has come to my attention that a very large number of reviews for online traffic schools on Yelp are completely fake. Many times, the positive reviews are simply reviews online traffic schools put there themselves, or the poor reviews are put there by competing traffic schools. In either case, I have found the trustworthiness of Yelp reviews to be extremely unreliable when reviewing traffic schools, so use your best judgement when determining which reviews are genuine and which ones aren’t.

Other than Yelp reviews, I do not see many mentions of ComedyTrafficSchool.com in various forums, blog posts, or other places on the web. Since people tend to tell others about poor experiences more than good experiences, in this case, no news is probably good news.

It should be noted that Comedy Traffic School has maintained an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau.

Course Features

Like all online comedy traffic schools, Comedy Traffic School has a variety of course programs that students can choose from, including magazine-style learning, audio-based, and video-based programs. Regardless of your learning style, you’re sure to find a program that will suit you nicely here.

Once you’ve chosen a course, you’re free to log in to Comedy Traffic School’s online portal. They, unfortunately, don’t have an app like Improv Traffic School, which might pose somewhat of an inconvenience, especially if you’re someone who likes taking classes via your mobile phone.

Each course is divided into 5 sections, each of which you’re free to study at your own pace and time. Besides lessons and reading materials, there will also be some quizzes and tests you’ll need to complete in order to pass.

When taking the course, you’ll be sent regular due date reminders to keep you on track. Most online traffic school students are juggling several activities all at once, so it might be difficult to remember to complete assignments without these reminders. As much as possible, take advantage of all the free time you have.

Upon completion of the course, your completion certificate will immediately be sent directly to your court. You won’t have to go through all the trouble of printing and sending the certificate yourself. (Although some cases may require you to make a personal appearance.)

For comedy and improv fans, you also get 4-free tickets to comedy clubs across California once you complete your enrollment and start taking your first lesson.

Course Pricing

I find their course pricing structure to be slightly misleading, although I’ve seen far more misleading tactics used by other online traffic schools.

For starters, they boldly state all over the website in large print that pricing is as low as $9.95. However, this base price is only valid in just 7 California counties: Alpine, Calaveras, Del Norte, Inyo, Modoc, Trinity AND Yuba. In all other counties, the lowest price you will pay is $19.95. There are also many ways they try to sell you additional features. For example, the $19.95 only covers the text-based course. If you want an audio feature, that will be extra. If you want the video feature, that will be extra. If you want your own copy of your completion certificate, that will be extra. There are many add-on’s they will tempt you with.

In their defense, these add-on’s are presented during the sign-up process and are not merely tacked on at the end of the course. Just be aware that it is pretty unlikely you’ll pay only $9.95. More likely, you’ll pay at least double that.

The good news is they have a “pass or don’t pay” guarantee. They will also send your completion certificate directly to the court electronically and they will not charge any extra for this.

Customer Service

Online traffic schools are known for their lower quality customer service. While I haven’t had any personal experience dealing with the Comedy Traffic School customer service, I did notice they do not have 24/7/365 customer support. In fact, the only time they offer live customer support is Monday through Friday from 8am to 5pm. I personally find this to be a bit lacking. Most people taking online traffic school will choose to do it during off-hours. Nights, weekends, holidays, and other non-work hours are when you’d probably need customer support, but there won’t be anyone available to help you. Believe it or not, tech support is something a lot of people require while going through their online traffic school. Due to various “identity verification systems” and other state requirements, bugs and errors are common. One of the biggest considerations you should look at when choosing an online traffic school is the quality of their customer and tech support. Since nothing is offered outside of business hours, that is a strike against this school.

My Overall Opinion Of Comedy Traffic School

While there are a few things that concern me (particularly the lack of 24/7 customer service), I think this is an above average online traffic school for California residence. The quality of the course is very high, especially if you purchase the audio or video upgrades. They also have more than 10 years experience with over 1-million graduates, or what I like to call “guinea pigs.” They’ve even gone as far as hiring some comedians that have been featured on Comedy Central and give you some free comedy club tickets for completing their course. While I still think Improv Traffic School is a superior comedy based traffic school, I can see why Comedy Traffic School is a top choice for many people.
