All Star Driving School Review & Comparison

All Star Driving School Review & Comparison

I’ve been involved with the driver education industry since 2009 and started this website in 2011 to help drivers ed students and parents navigate the sometimes deceitful drivers ed industry.

Unfortunately, many driving schools out there provide very poor service to students and most students have no idea until they’ve already spent hundreds or thousands of dollars.

I noticed that All-Star Driving School based out of Dallas, Texas is a popular place for drivers ed students, so I wanted to take a closer look at them to see what type of quality service they are providing.

While this does appear to be a fully legitimate driving school, they aren’t without their faults.

The Best Alternative To All Star Driving School

Before I get into my full review of All-Star Driving School, I wanted to provide you with an alternative solution that you might not know about. Driving schools do not like you to know about the other options you have available to you, and so I will take it upon myself to show you that there are options.

The state of Texas has a few ways you can complete your drivers education requirements. Here are your options:

Option 1: Sign up for an online driving class with instructor taught behind-the-wheel training

Option 2: Use the Texas Parent Taught Drivers Ed (PTDE) program

Option 3: Sign up for a local driving school like All-Star Driving School

As a former driving instructor myself, I actually think the first 2 options are the best, but I LOVE the Texas Parent Taught Drivers Ed program the most. It’s a very unique drivers ed program that only exists in Texas.

Essentially, you take an online drivers ed course for your “classroom” portion of the training, then your parent or guardian becomes your driving instructor so you can complete your driving hours without having to use any driving school at all. It’s like homeschooling, but for drivers ed.

Here is my top recommended Texas certified PTDE course and here is how to get started.

All-Star Driving School Reputation

All-Star Driving School has been in business for over 30 years in the Dallas, Texas area and they operate out of 3 different locations.

That means they’re doing something right and this is not some “fly by night” driving school.

They are well established, are approved by the DPS as a road test provider, and are well known in the area.

They currently have the following services available:

It does appear the pricing structure is a bit high for most Dallas area driving schools with prices ranging from $400 to more than $700 depending on the package you sign up for.

By comparison, Parent Taught Drivers Ed can be done for much cheaper. However, for those looking to have professional instructor training, this could be an excellent option even though the prices are a bit high.

The Biggest Problem With All-Star Driving School

The biggest problem with All-Star Driving School is the lack of instructors, which means booking driving time with an instructor could be difficult especially during busy times such as during the summer months. To be fair, this is an issue nearly ALL driving schools face.

All-Star Driving School basically has the option to hire lots of inexperienced instructors, or only keep on good instructors but lack scheduling flexibility. It’s a tough line to tread and the lack of available instructors has created very low 2 star ratings on Yelp. Other commenting platforms have shown the same scheduling problems.

While these low reviews may be a bit disheartening, I am glad to see that this is essentially the only reason they are receiving poor reviews. Unfortunately, this is just the nature of drivers education.

Good driving instructors are hard to come by and the shortage isn’t necessarily the fault of All-Star Driving School, so I’ll give them a pass on it. You just have to realize going in that scheduling an instructor may be a bit of an issue, no matter what driving school you end up going with.

Alternative Driving Schools

All-Star Driving School may not be your best bet, but there are several driving schools you can choose from. You can choose which one suits your needs best.

If you want something that has been tried and tested for so many years now, check out  DriversEd.com

They have recently upgraded all of their videos and animations so you can rest assured that the information you’ll find on their course is up to date. They also have plans of getting rid of their old behind-the-wheel training vehicles, so watch out for newer ones!

What’s more, they offer several resources for parents who want to be part of their teens’ journey in getting their driver’s licenses.

The company has an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau, which proves that you can count on them to provide quality service to their customers

Another option I have for you is Aceable. Though their course is only available in limited states, they’ve been gaining new approvals and it’s only a matter of time before they start offering courses nationwide.

The gamified learning experience that Aceable implements appeal to most young drivers signing up for driver’s ed. But even adults may find the approach a lot more entertaining than your usual online driving schools.

Since they’re quite new, their course materials are the most modern course you’ll find, available in a very intuitive mobile app that can be easily downloaded on your smartphones or tablets. Those who prefer taking the course on a laptop or computer won’t have any problem accessing the course through any browser because of Aceable’s responsive website.

My Overall Opinion Of All Star Driving School

I’ve made my opinion clear that I believe going with an online driving course and particularly a Parent Taught Drivers Ed Course is the best option, but if you wish to use a local driving school in the Dallas, Texas area, I see nothing wrong with All-Star Driving School and I would recommend it.

You can also save a few bucks by only using All Star Driving School for the driving instruction and taking your classroom portion of drivers ed online.

In any case, the only real issue I see with All-Star Driving School is the lack of driving instructors, leading to scheduling conflicts, but again, this is something you would experience anywhere.

All in all, this is an above-average driving school, especially compared to other driving schools in the Dallas area. Sign up with confidence.
