Driving Articles and Editorials

Hairpin Turn

These driving articles probably aren't what you expect. Some of them you might agree with, and some you might find completely rediculous.

For example, you may think drunk driving laws are necessary. You might believe speed limits are required to ensure our safety. You probably think traffic tickets lead to safer roads. And more recently, you probably are under the belief that texting while driving or cell phone laws are needed to make everyone safer. Well, you'd be wrong!

Too many laws, not enough safety

As somebody who drives for a living (I'm a long-haul trucker), few things are more important to me than making our roads safer. So I don't want to give the wrong impression with these driving articles. I'm not advocating for drinking and driving, texting while driving, or any other form of distracted driving for that matter. What I'm suggesting is an alternative to oppressive government laws and regulations. We don't need most traffic laws that are currently in existence. I intend to prove that to you and even show you alternatives.

But how can we be safe without traffic laws?

Traffic Laws

First of all, I'm not saying all traffic laws should be repealed. But we have many laws in place that actually make our roadways more dangerous! For example, you'd think laws against texting and driving would create safer roadways for us all, but it actually makes the roads more dangerous! Even drunk driving laws are flawed and create dangerous situations for us all. Think I'm crazy? Read the related driving articles below to find out my point of view.

If laws don't work, why are the roadways safer than ever?

Great question! The roadways have become much safer over time and in fact, have never been safer than they are today. But in order to understand why the roads are safer, we must look at advances in technology. Look at how cars have changed over the years. We can stop faster, we have airbags, seat belts, anti-lock brakes, traction control, improved roadway design, etc. There are a ton of reasons our roads are safer today and most of those reasons have to do with advances in technology, not suppressive laws. Actually, traffic laws inhibit the advancement of new and safe technologies!

Traffic laws are just the start

These driving articles will cover more than just traffic laws. How would you feel if every major expressway was turned into a toll road? Not only that, but how would you feel if those toll roads were owned by private companies who make a profit off the tolls you pay? Well, that's exactly what should be done. It would make our roadways safer, more efficient, and cheaper for you in the long run.

I'd even like to see major bridges run by privatized organizations. Private companies should be able to invest in our roadway system, even on local and state levels. If privatized toll roads were successfully implemented, we'd see a decrease in traffic crashes, congestion, road construction, and roadway deterioration.

Sound controversial? Well, read the driving articles below before you make up your mind. You might be surprised with my arguments.

What are you proposing?

Indiana Turnpike

I'm proposing we get rid of laws such as drinking and driving, speed limits, required seat belt use, texting while driving, and a bunch of other laws that do nothing to improve safety.

I'm also proposing we largely privatize our roadway and public transit systems instead of continuing to operate under a socialist transportation model. There has been a big push lately for smaller government. Well, the government controls nearly every aspect of transportation. Something that effects each and every one of us on a daily basis. The government had their chance and they are failing miserably. Now it's time to seek alternatives. Get the government out of transportation.
