A Sense Of Humor Driving Review (ASenseOfHumorDriving.com)

A Sense Of Humor Driving Logo

Today I’m actually going to be reviewing an older online defensive driving course. Please note that this course is only certified in the state of Texas, so if you need to take a defensive driving course in another state, select your state on this page.

To be honest, I never really paid much attention to the A Sense Of Humor Defensive Driving Course because I knew they were a smaller online defensive driving course and they don’t have the millions of students that other corporate courses can boast about. All these years, I just assumed A Sense Of Humor Driving was owned by some dude running the operation out of his house. There are so many low quality online defensive driving courses out there that I don’t even pay attention to half of them. Again, my assumption was that A Sense Of Humor Defensive Driving would be the same as all those other low quality courses.

…That is until the day I met the guy who owns this course during a conference I was attending in Las Vegas. He was one of the nicest guys I’ve ever met and since my site reviews online traffic schools and driver’s ed courses, we obviously had a lot to talk about.

After talking for literally hours, I knew I had to write up this A Sense Of Humor Driving review and give this online defensive driving course the props it deserves. Quite honestly, I’ve never quite seen an online defensive driving course operate the way A Sense Of Humor Driving does.

My opinion of A Sense Of Humor Driving is already showing through and it’s probably pretty obvious by now that I think this is a quality course to sign up with, but let’s get into some of the details anyway.

A Sense Of Humor Defensive Driving Course

Yes, A Sense Of Humor Driving Is Legit

A Sense Of Humor Defensive Driving is absolutely legit as long as you live in the state of Texas. If you do not live in the state of Texas, A Sense Of Humor Driving will not work, so check out this page and choose your state for a list of online traffic schools that are certified in your state.

Otherwise, assuming you live in Texas, you’re good to go. A Sense Of Humor Driving is certified in the entire state of Texas for all counties and court jurisdictions. You can see their official certification here and here, but I’ve also included image captures below.

The Fascinating History Of A Sense Of Humor Driving

Did you know A Sense Of Humor Driving is one of the oldest defensive driving courses in Texas? This defensive driving course started off by teaching defensive driving in classrooms in the Dallas and Fort Worth areas way back in 1992! They have been certified ever since.

In those 25 years, their concept has remained the same… They understand that taking a defensive driving course sucks. They also understand you’re not taking the course by choice, but you have to, and they are providing you with a service that will attempt to make it as painless as possible.

Learning about defensive driving doesn’t have to be boring. Now, I’m not saying you’ll have the best time of your life going through A Sense Of Humor Driving, but what I am saying is that they get it. You just want to get this done as quickly, painlessly, and as cheaply as you possibly can. They’ve been marketing themselves as that solution for 25 years now, so clearly they’re doing something right.

Finally, in 2006, they decided to stop resisting the internet and launched their Texas state approved ONLINE defensive driving course. Surprisingly, this didn’t change the core of who they are, which is a locally owned small business in Texas serving other local Texans. They didn’t expand into out of state offices, they didn’t hire offshore customer service representatives, and they don’t try to screw people over by charging hidden fees at the end of the courses like so many others do. If not for any other reason, signing up for this course is helping a real small business owner with a real family to support in your very own state (Richland Hills to be exact).

What I DON’T LIKE About A Sense Of Humor Driving

Here’s the thing… As I said above, this is a legit locally owned small business in Texas. There are good and bad things about that. While I think the pros of this driving school vastly outweighs the bad, this review would not be balanced without me stating what I don’t really like about it.

My biggest issue with this course is that it is outdated. The larger corporate owned online defensive driving courses in Texas are able to dump a lot more money into course creation, marketing, making their website flashy, high-tech graphics and animations, etc. Most of the big corporate owned courses have had millions of people go through their courses and they are approved in sometimes dozens of states. This enables them to throw a lot more money around.

That just isn’t the case with A Sense Of Humor Driving. They only care about working with people in the state of Texas and they plan on keeping their operation local. They have no desire to become a large corporate owned entity that is only driven by profit. Unfortunately, that means they don’t have the funds to constantly update their course. So, if you’re looking for the most flashy and high tech course around, this one probably isn’t it.

With that said, they have recently launched a new video course so if you prefer to get the course with 100% video, that is now an option for you.

What I DO LIKE About A Sense Of Humor Driving

In the section above I describe some of the disadvantages about A Sense Of Humor Driving due to them being owned by a small business vs. a corporation. However, the advantages of supporting these guys is worth it in my opinion.

One of the worst aspects of the “online defensive driving industry” is the lack of any quality customer service at all. I won’t get into all of the specific here, but it is very common for people to need to contact customer support for one reason or another no matter which course you sign up with. This is due to rules and regulations set up by the state. Sometimes you’ll need to actually talk to a human. With most of the corporate owned courses, you get to talk to someone that lives overseas and barely has any authority to do anything for you but put you on hold for the next person up the line that MAYBE can help. It’s incredibly frustrating. With A Sense Of Humor Driving you just call them up at their local small office in Richland Hills, TX and talk to them yourself.

They also don’t pull all the really shady tricks that many other courses try. A lot of courses might advertise that they are a certain price, but once you go through the entire thing they want you to pay ridiculous processing fees, shipping fees, and other bogus charges for “extra features” you may have used during your course. Want to complain about those additional fees you didn’t know about? Good luck contacting customer support to get it fixed. You’re not going to have that problem with A Sense Of Humor Driving.

When you sign up for A Sense Of Humor Driving, you are already paying for everything upfront. For example, the course fee includes an audio read-along feature that just about any other online defensive driving course in Texas will charge you extra for. You also get free certificate processing and they will drop it in the mail within’ 24hrs of you completing the course. No extra fees, no trickery, no games, etc.

There’s also something nice about this being a very basic course. Some of these online defensive driving courses go a bit too crazy with videos and animations and games, etc. Most of us just want to get the course done as quickly and as easily as possible, right? Right.

Lastly, while I wouldn’t choose to spend my Saturday night going through an online defensive driving class, they do help to make it fun. Their mascot, Eddie, will be with you throughout the course. Eddie is relatable, because he’s not a “driving instructor” per say. He’s just a regular driver like you that has good habits and bad ones. Basically, you get to learn from his mistakes and he makes it entertaining as you go through the course.

A Sense Of Humor Driving

Is A Sense Of Humor Defensive Driving Difficult?

No, A Sense Of Humor Driving is a very easy course that just about anyone should be able to pass without any trouble at all, even if you’re only barely paying attention. There will be a quiz after each section that you must pass in order to continue throughout the course, and then there is a final exam that you will also need to pass at the end. These quizzes and tests are timed, but they are open book and if you can’t pass the final exam, you honestly shouldn’t be on the road anyway!

Money Back Guarantee

A Sense Of Humor Driving offers a very liberal money back guarantee. As long as you request your money back within’ 30 days and you haven’t already passed the final exam, you can get your money back for absolutely any reason. I’m really glad they provide this because it gives people the ability to try out their course without any risk at all. Sometimes small businesses don’t do a great job and corporations are better – this enables you to be your own judge and at least gives the small business owner the benefit of the doubt.

Final Thoughts About A Sense Of Humor Driving

As a small business owner myself, I have a bit of a soft spot for other small businesses, but I also tend to expect superior and more personalized service from a small business rather than a corporation. Fortunately, I think A Sense Of Humor Driving has found that balance. They may not offer the flashiest online defensive driving course, but they will make sure you’re satisfied. After personally meeting the owner of this defensive driving course, I’m confident they will continue to provide the same level of service that they have been since 1992. If you’ve been considering signing up with A Sense Of Humor Driving, I think it is more than worth using their money back guarantee to see what you think.

Approved Course Defensive Driving Review (ApprovedCourse.com)

Approved Course Review

Approved Course Defensive Driving is a state certified online defensive driving course that can be used for ticket dismissal in the state of Texas. As a former driving instructor, I’m often asked about various online defensive driving courses. Over the years running this site, I’ve reviewed many online Texas defensive driving courses, but up until now, I’ve never taken a look at ApprovedCourse.com. I recently found out Approved Course is the fastest growing defensive driving course in Texas, so I knew I had to get this course reviewed.

With so many poor quality online defensive driving courses available, I always go into a review with some cautious skepticism. So, let’s see what I found out while performing my review for Approved Course Defensive Driving.

Approved Course Review

Is Approved Course Defensive Driving Legit?

Let’s start this review off with the basics. The main thing you likely want to know is if Approved Course Defensive Driving is legit. The answer is yes, IF you live in the state of Texas. As their name implies, Approved Course is in fact approved in the state of Texas. They hold certification #CP280 which is issued by The Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR).

Before signing up for any defensive driving course, you’ll want to make sure the course is actually certified in your specific state. We now know that Approved Course is certified in the state of Texas, so yes, Approved Course is a legit online defensive driving course in Texas. This course is approved for ticket dismissal in all counties and all court jurisdictions in the entire state of Texas, so rest assured this course is recognized by the courts.

Approved Course Certification

My Approved Course Defensive Driving Review

Before I review any online traffic school or defensive driving course, I like to go through the course myself. I’ve reviewed well over a dozen online driving courses at this point, so it is easy for me to compare them all. As a former driving instructor, I also am able to provide a unique perspective on these courses.

Overall, I am impressed with Approved Course. The #1 issue I have with most online defensive driving courses in Texas is how outdated most of them have become. This isn’t the case with Approved Course. In fact, the course was just recently updated to include more video, and also includes a brand new 100% video option.

Approved Course Review

Video Option Side Note: The 100% video course option does cost a few bucks more, but in my opinion, it is well worth the cost. All online defensive driving courses in Texas require a course timer to be used, meaning, you can’t just blow through the entire course in 20 minutes. It really will take a full 6 hours to complete. The video option really helps to make things more interesting and entertaining. I found it to be a much better experience.

The second biggest issue I have with most online defensive driving courses in Texas is how boring most of the courses are. There is nothing worse than page after page filled with walls of text. As you go through the course, you will need to pass some quizzes before you can move forward to make sure you are retaining the information. Approved Course makes it pretty easy by offering several different methods of delivering the material. If you go with the video option, you get 100% of the course in video format, so that’s cool. But even if you go with the standard option, videos, images, and graphics are still included to help keep things at least somewhat entertaining.

Based on my experience, my overall review of Approved Course is positive, especially when compared to many other online defensive driving courses in Texas. Based on the course content itself, I wouldn’t hesitate to sign up for this one.

However, there are a few more things to look into…

Customer Service At Approved Course

There’s a dark secret about the online defensive driving industry and that dark secret is a lack of customer service. Often times, customer service is outsourced to overseas agencies. The agents you call on the phone usually have very little power and many times can’t even issue you a refund or take care of the most basic issue.

As an example, all online defensive driving courses in Texas require what they call “identity verification”. The state wants to make sure that YOU are really the one taking the course and you’re not forcing your grandmother to take it for you. In order to accomplish this, you will randomly be asked questions only you should know (what is the last 4 of your social security number, what is the last digit on your license plate, etc.). If you answer the question too slowly or get too many of them incorrect, you will be locked out of your course until you can contact customer support to get it reopened. This is a common experience, and yet, often times people have to wait on hold just to get a customer service agent that can’t really help them. Extremely frustrating, right?

One thing I really like about Approved Course is they actually offer quality customer support, which is a rarity in the industry. In fact, these guys are based right here in Richland Hills, Texas. If you need any assistance, you can call them at their office (800-581-3997) between the following hours:

  • Sunday: 9am – 7pm
  • Monday: 9am – 9pm
  • Tuesday: 9am – 9pm
  • Wednesday: 9am – 9pm
  • Thursday: 9am – 9pm
  • Friday: 9am – 7pm
  • Saturday: 9am – 7pm

Alright, so now we know the course content is high quality and we know they provide customer service. Approved Course is off to a good start!

What If I Want My Money Back?

I never understand when a defensive driving course does NOT offer a money back guarantee. If a course truly does have a quality product, why would they be afraid to offer a no hassle money back guarantee? Fortunately, Approved Course does offer a money back guarantee. So, in the event you sign up and don’t like the course, just call their customer service and you can get your money back. Pretty simple.

Lowest Price Gurantee

I was a bit surprised to see this on their site, not because it is rare to see a “lowest price guarantee” for a defensive driving course, but because most of the ones that offer a lowest price guarantee are very outdated and clearly cut corners. For being such a high quality course, I actualy expected them to be on the expensive side.

The actual cost of the course varies from time to time (usually around $25), but they always guarantee to be the cheapest online defensive driving course in Texas. If you find a course offering a lower price, they will match or beat it.

…I still wasn’t convinced. This is actually a huge trick used by defensive driving schools. They offer a lowest price guarantee, but then once you’re actually in the course they sell you “upgrades”, tack on a shipping charge, add a fee here and a fee there. It’s ridiculous. I figured Approved Course was up to the same scam, but surprisingly they are actually being ethical and legitimate with their guarantee.

There are 3 different ways you can “upgrade” your account at Approved Course, but all of these upgrades are presented BEFORE you take take the course. The first upgrade is the 100% video option, the second is an expedited certificate shipping option, and the final upgrade is an option to purchase your driving record along with the course. Other than that, the base price includes everything such as UPS Priority shipping, certificate processing, and they don’t try to nickel and dime you after completing the course. You pay for everything up front.

Alright, to recap this review so far, we now know that Approved Course offers a high quality course, provides good customer service, a money back guarantee, and they have a lowest price guarantee as well. Not too bad! Dare I say I’ve found one of the good ones?

No Final Exam!

Some online defensive driving courses require you to pass a final exam, and sometimes, you only have a couple chances to pass that final exam. However, Approved Course does NOT have a final exam! Yes, there will be some quizzes as you go through the course, but these quizzes are super easy, open book, and you can’t fail them. If you don’t pass, you just keep taking them until you do pass. Not having a final exam removes a lot of the stress from taking a defensive driving course.

Is Approved Course Hard?

Not at all. The thing is, taking a defensive driving course just plain sucks. Nobody likes to spend 6 hours going through a defensive driving course and I’m not here to tell you that Approved Course is a wonderful way to spend your time. But at least it’s easy, entertaining at times, and hey, you might actually learn a thing or two along the way.

Final Thoughts About ApprovedCourse.com

With the number of very low quality online defensive driving courses I’ve gone through, it’s actually refreshing to have reviewed ApprovedCourse.com. They not only offer a quality product, but this is a locally based company in Texas that provides excellent customer support, a money back guarantee, and they will do it all for the lowest price, guaranteed. I also like that they don’t try to scam their own customers by adding on additional fees at the end such as overpriced shipping / handling options, bogus processing fees, and other sneaky tricks that are often used to bleed more money from you.

Bottom line is Approved Course appears to be one of the few ethically run online defensive driving courses in Texas and they provide a quality product on top of that. I really have no issues with this course and it is among the best I’ve reviewed. If you need to take a defensive driving course in Texas due to a driving infraction, ApprovedCourse.com is a great option for you.

What Are These Examinations I Am Going To Have To Take To Become A Driver?

In order to become a driver by obtaining a driver’s license, you will have to pass a vision exam, a knowledge exam, and a driving exam.

The vision exam consists of your vision being examined while you are at the driver license office. In order to drive, it may be state-mandated that you wear corrective lenses, especially if the lenses improve your vision or help increase the safety of your driving.

The knowledge exam is a written exam that may not be necessary depending on the driver education course your take. Taking an online drivers ed course can provide credit for the written exam. If you do take the exam, you will need a grade of 70 percent or better to pass for you to become a driver.

  • Manual parallel parking
  • Quick stop, without skidding your tires
  • Backing – back the car up in a straight line for approximately 60 feet

The Process For Teen Drivers Under The Age Of 25 Who Want To Become A Driver

All individuals under the age of 18 who want to become a driver are required to complete an approved driver’s education course. This can be obtained by taking an approved for-profit driver training school, a public school driver education, or a parent-taught driver education. It is possible to take this course online, with Drivers Ed being a popular choice among teens seeking their license. The course is approved by the state of Texas, and will meet the 32 hour classroom instruction requirement to obtain your learner’s permit.

Once you have completed this, you may begin to prepare for the written exam. After passing the written exam, you will receive behind-the-wheel training. You must log at least 30 hours of driver training.

Once you have held your learner’s permit for six months, have completed the above requirements, and have reached the age of 16, you can take your driving test. Upon passing your driving test, you will be provided your provisional license. Congratulations! The provision license has particular rules about just what you can do what while driving. Once you turn 18 years old, your “provisional” status will be lifted.

Those between the ages of 18-24 are required to take the Texas Adult Drivers Ed course. This course too can be taken as on online drivers ed course. I Drive Safely is a great choice and comes highly recommended. The course provides a great opportunity to complete your driving classes in a manner that is conducive to your schedule and comfort level. It also allows you the pleasure of skipping a potentially boring course, and avoiding lines at the DMV. The test that is a part of this online drivers ed program waives the requirement of taking a written test in order to get your license. This six hour course can help you become a driver quickly because it can be completed quickly in the luxury of your own home.

All individuals under the age of 25 must meet the requirements of the Impact Texas Teen Drivers program. You will not be eligible to take the driving skills test without first completing this task.

The process to become a driver will be difficult at times, and will most certainly test your patience. The state provides a comprehensive handbook, which can be found here. The Texas Driver Handbook contains an abundance of information, from obtaining your license to alcohol and drug impact on drivers. I urge you to take your time and appreciate the process. Complete the necessary requirements only when you feel comfortable. Not only will this make your process easier and less stressful, but it also promotes safe driving habits while on the road. With hard work, you can obtain your Texas driver’s license and hit the open road!
